PHILIP DE VILLIERS (B.A. Hons. Live Performance, AFDA)

Born To Shine is the brainchild of Philip de Villiers, a visionary music entrepreneur who has been working tirelessly to deploy new talent across global stages. As a teacher, manager and publicist he has devoted almost 20 years to nurturing young artists and making them visible to the world.

His big success story is the Afro-soul singer Nomfusi, a graduate from one of his training courses in Cape Town, South Africa. After mentoring her as a singer and songwriter for a year, she was discovered internationally when her showcase video was seen online by a festival director in Calgary, Canada. It was the start of seven consecutive years of international touring for the young starlet. Philip signed her to Universal Music in 2009 who outsourced the album’s marketing to his newly formed publicity and management agency, Global Exposure. Nomfusi became an overnight sensation with continuous prime time TV exposure, magazine features and award nominations. In 2013 she portrayed the role of African singing legend Miriam Makeba in the Nelson Mandela biopic Long Walk To Freedom, for which she traveled to Hollywood to appear at the US premiere.
